Presidential Aide, State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Chair of the State Council Commission on Transport, Head of the Republic of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov chaired a meeting of the State Council’s relevant commission as part of the Transport Week events to discuss public transport development within the framework of drafting a corresponding national project.
The meeting was attended by Kursk Region Governor Roman Starovoit, State Duma deputies, heads of federal and regional executive agencies and their deputies, as well as representatives of business circles, development institutions and the expert community.
The President has repeatedly addressed the issue of accelerated public transit system upgrading and drafting a single project to help this.
As per the Government’s instruction, the Russian Transport Ministry, with the participation of the State Council Commission on Transport, will have to explore the issue of adding a separate federal project for public passenger transport reequipment to the Transport national project, which is being developed.
During the meeting, representatives of the Transport Ministry, as well as Russian regions and various organisations, discussed existing mechanisms and agreed there was a need for a separate federal project on public transport development to be included in the single Transport national project. Proposals formulated following the Сommission’s meeting will be also submitted to the Government for consideration.
